about us

Who are we?

We started Tales of Northeast with a simple idea “every place has a story to tell.”

To understand a place, it is important to understand how people live with it. Their relationship with forests, rivers, wildlife, belief systems, and the histories that have shaped these landscapes over time.

We design travel experiences that allow visitors to engage with these everyday realities in a respectful and meaningful way.

Why we started?

We are a group of people who have spent more than four years working in the tourism sector across Northeast India.

Our work involved developing responsible tourism sites, documenting them, and promoting these places in ways that were meaningful to both travellers and host communities.

Through this process, we worked closely with local communities and gained a deeper understanding of what exists beyond the usual tourist routes.

Over time, we noticed that while travel was increasing in many of these places, local participation in shaping these journeys was often limited.

We realised that tourism experiences become more meaningful when communities are actively involved in planning and hosting them.

We started Tales of Northeast with this understanding.

Our vision

Globally, tourism contributes to nearly 8 percent of carbon emissions and can place pressure on ecosystems through deforestation and the loss of flora and fauna.

Journeys do not take place in isolation from these effects.

Our vision is to work as a bridge between travellers and local communities, creating journeys that engage with local knowledge, culture, and landscape in meaningful ways.

By keeping group sizes small, working with locally owned partners, and minimising unnecessary movement, we aim to use tourism as a tool to support local livelihoods, encourage cultural preservation, and ensure that knowledge and traditions are passed on to the next generation.
